Cantilever Technology

  Background

The development of cantilever sensor technology was pioneered at the IBM research laboratory in Rüschlikon/Zürich and at the National Center of Research in Nanoscale Science (NCCR) at the University of Basel.

With its origins in atomic force microscopy the technology has rapidly created a new research field in nanoscience. Together with advances in microfabrication techniques and surface functionalisation, cantilever technology offers fascinating new opportunities, for instance in chemical and biological sensing.

  Applications

Cantilever sensors are highly flexible and sensitive devices, allowing the detection of extremely small quantities of substances in gas and liquids. The mechanical effect of molecular interactions on the cantilever surface can be measured directly, eliminating the need for time consuming labeling.

Concentris has designed its Cantisens® Research equipment and cantilever sensors to give users from various fields of life sciences, biology, chemistry and physics access to the advantages of cantilever technology.
